Huntercraft Reviews

I liked the design of Huntercraft boats. I had been looking around for a while and no one was building something like this. I use it for fishing and it’s good to fish out of, there’s plenty of room at the front for fly fishing and it’s nice and stable. It’s also easy to launch and pull around shallow areas. The dry storage area keeps all my gear dry so I don’t have to worry about it. It’s light enough to tow with a camper and we’ve taken it to Waituna, Lake Wakatipu, Manorburn Dam, the Oreti River, and this weekend we are taking it to Papatowai. I have been recommending Huntercraft to other people and everybody who has seen in it has been quite impressed. I am more than happy with it.

I have owned several runabouts over the years, my Huntercraft 4200 is by far the best for lake and river fishing along with simply jetboating local McKenzie country rivers and other waterways, easy to handle rides exceptionally well and is very stable. The front hatch holds an amazing amount of gear leaving heaps of room in the boat, Andrew fitted rod holders for me along the inside enabling me to safely hold two ten ft fly rods. It was a breeze organising the build with Andrew, nothing was a problem and the boat completed within his time frame. Highly recommend Huntercraft.

I’m a commercial boat contractor working in rivers, streams, lagoons, and lakes in the South Island collecting data and environmental sampling. I use a Huntercraft Jet Venturer 4.200 for all my sampling and riverbed survey work. I chose a Huntercraft because it is unique design lightweight and has a shallow draft- it doesn’t need much water to float in. The open plan of the boat provides a spacious and stable working area, and the dry storage is great for laptops and other equipment.

I have been using Outboard Jets since 2013 and changing to the Huntercraft jet tunnel design combined with the UHM bottom takes the shallow water ability to the next level. When carrying out the riverbed survey work, we boat in all sorts of rivers and the small tributaries some not usually boated, and the ability to stop virtually anywhere we like and jump on the plain with ease. The Huntercraft jet makes working in these usually difficult places very easy and I’m now able to offer my clients a wider range surveyable area.

Andrew has been good to work with adding in custom fittings to attach the survey and sounder gear to the boat. There is nothing else as well suited or better designed for working where we operate. I’ve previously held 3 boats in my fleet at once to perform the range of work I currently do which included a conventional inboard jetboat but now have been able reduced this down just needing the two Huntercraft’s which do everything we need!

I have one of the first Pioneer 3900’s made and worked closely with Andrew on the design and build, we talked a lot about the type of boat we needed for the type of hunting and fishing that we do at the Waituna Wetlands. Design was important. Because of the shape of the boats they take such little water to float in and they ride so well. The Jetboat style flat centre on the bottom really makes it. It’s great for duck shooting, with the camouflage you blend into the background and the folding frames of the duck blind are useful for retrieving ducks and decoys.
